Most liquid insecticides are classed as “residual insecticides“: after drying they leave a film that will kill bugs and remain effective for some length of time, depending on the formulation, the condition of the surface (greasy, wet, etc.), and the type of surface (e.g. concrete, wood, soil, etc.).
Pyrethroid pesticides (permethrin, cypermethrin, allethrin, etc.) are toxic to insects but only of slight toxicity to mammals, and are hence a preferred choice for use around the house. Protector C is approved for use on mattresses and carpets.

Are Liquid Residual Insecticides Safe?
For more than a century, liquid residual insecticides have been the primary choice in agriculture for safeguarding crops against insects, weeds, fungi, and other pests. These insecticides maintain their effectiveness over extended periods, ensuring ongoing pest control. In a recent Kurzgesagt episode comparing organic food to conventionally grown food (which involves pesticide use), numerous scientific studies found that the risks posed by pesticides to adults are akin to consuming a glass of wine every three months!
If residual insecticides are safe for protecting food products, they do not need to be a cause for concern when applied to surfaces around your home or office.

Details & Formulations
Protector c is an advanced nanoemulsion formulation based on water and containing the active ingredient cypermethrin at 0.1%. This liquid residual insecticide is available in 1 Litre trigger spray bottles or 5 Litre flagons (for use in compression sprayers).
The advanced nanoemulsion technology creates ultra-fine droplets which penetrate all the cracks & crevices where small bug pests are harbouring. This results in an immediate kill and knockdown effect with the added benefit of the active ingredient remaining on the surface, for up to three months, to kill any insects that enter from a non-treated area.
Instructions for use
- Always read and follow all advice from the product label. Use pesticides safely.
- Space treatments: Apply 1ml of product per cubic metre as a fine mist
- Surface sprays: Apply 20ml of product per square metre, slightly wetting the surface to be protected.
- Repeat treatment when and as required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Protector C on beds for bed bugs?
Yes, you can. Remove all bedding and wash on a hot wash and tumble dry on a hot setting. Spray Protector C on the mattress (both sides) and the whole room, particularly the bed frame. The mattress is safe to use when dry.
How do I use Protector C to protect clothing and bedding from moths?
Clean the storage cupboard and spray with Protector C as a surface treatment. Replace clean clothes in the cupboard.
Can I use Protector C on my soft furnishing?
Yes, you can. Protector C is specifically approved for use on soft furnishings in the home, so you can treat your carpets and lounge suites as well.
I have pets, can I spray Protector C in rooms for fleas, mites and other bugs?
Yes, you can, but not directly on pet the bedding (all fabrics should be washed). Make sure your pet is not around until the insecticide is completely dry (2 – 3 hours). Also, remember to treat furniture as well. Treat your pet with an approved veterinary-use insecticide.
Can I use Protector C Liquid Residual Insecticide around my farm?
Yes. It is recommended by the Institute of Animal Health for use on housing, vehicles and farmyards. It is also an approved insecticide by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).
I am not very confident about using liquid insecticides. Can I get help?

Yes Paul, this liquid residual insecticide can be effective against red mite in a pigeon loft when used correctly.
Red mite typically hide in cracks, crevices, perches, and nesting areas during the day, so the key to successful control is thorough application to all these harbourage points rather than spraying the birds themselves. This liquid residual insecticide is designed to leave a long-lasting residual effect on treated surfaces, helping to control mites as they emerge and move across those areas.
For best results:
* Fully clean out the pigeon loft before treatment, removing dust, debris, and nesting material
* Apply the liquid residual insecticide to all cracks, joints, perches, and nesting areas where red mite may hide
* Allow surfaces to dry completely before reintroducing birds
* Repeat the treatment if necessary to break the red mite life cycle
When used as directed, this type of insecticide provides effective, ongoing control of crawling insects, including red mite, in loft environments.
It is not labelled for spiders so we cannot advise you to use it against spiders
Protector C can be effective in controlling black ants. The efficacy and speed can vary on the extent of the infestation.
Residual insecticides work by leaving a long-lasting chemical barrier that ants contact when they walk over treated surfaces. The time it takes to see results can range from a few hours to a few days. Some ants might die within hours, while others might take longer if they carry the poison back to the nest, potentially affecting other ants.
Application: Proper application is crucial. The insecticide must be applied to areas where ants travel, such as along baseboards, around entry points, and near food sources. Misapplication can reduce effectiveness.
Eliminating an entire ant nest with residual insecticide is possible but not always guaranteed. Here are some factors influencing this outcome: Colony Size and Structure: Large or multi-queen colonies can be more challenging to eradicate completely. The insecticide needs to reach the queens and brood to be effective.
Combining residual insecticides with baiting strategies such as Nippon Ant Bait sold on our website, can enhance effectiveness. Baits are taken back to the nest and shared, increasing the likelihood of reaching all colony members.
Persistence and Reapplication: Protector C can remain effective for weeks or even months. Regular reapplication might be necessary for severe infestations to ensure that newly hatched ants or those initially unaffected are exposed.
It is only approved for use on soft furnishings and mattresses, not toys I am afraid. If you suspect any soft toys to be contaminated with insects or larvae, just use a tumble dryer cycle (50 degrees or more) and it will kill everything. Paper books would also probably be damaged by being sprayed with any liquid

I got it to put down a Silverfish infestation and it did the the job. Many suggestions out there and online as to deal with these pests, but this is the only effective remedy I have found.
